Turkey NATO. russian fake. kremlin 2025. nato 2025
This ‘news’ is being circulated on Bulgarian social media. In reality, this information is manipulation and outright fiction, which has no confirmation in official or independent sources. Not only has Turkey not announced its withdrawal from NATO, but it also continues to actively participate in the Alliance's activities.
According to investigators from the Bulgarian project Factcheck.bg, the authors of the fake news refer to fictitious sources such as the non-existent ‘Greek investigative portal Katapodis News’ and the fictitious ‘Polish analyst M. Kazmerczyk’: https://factcheck.bg/ne-e-vyarno-che-turciya-ima-namerenie-da-napusne-nato/ The post is accompanied by a photo of Erdogan's ‘meeting’ with putin, generated by artificial intelligence.
On 24 June 2025, Turkish representative to NATO Lieutenant General Kemal Turan confirmed that Turkey ‘has always placed NATO at the centre of its defence and security policy’ and remains committed to its alliance obligations. Turkey is also one of the largest participants in joint NATO missions, with strategic Alliance facilities located on its territory.
The spread of fake news about Turkey's withdrawal from the Alliance is part of a russian disinformation campaign aimed at undermining trust in NATO and creating the illusion of a rift between allies.
