the drone attack on Poland. russian drone. kremlin war
Nearly two dozen russian combat drones flew into Polish airspace during Ukraine's night-time air attack on 10 September. Some of them were shot down, and US Congressman Joe Wilson has already called the russian attack on Poland an ‘act of war’. Meanwhile, russian propaganda is trying with all its might to push its version of events and shift the blame onto Ukraine.
Some details about the incident itself can be found here: https://www.euronews.com/2025/09/10/polish-airspace-violated-by-multiple-drones-pm-donald-tusk-says
As of 10 September, the following narratives have been recorded:
‘Kyiv launched the drones itself in order to blame Moscow.’‘Zelenskyy needs the incident to ask for money at Ramstein.’‘Ukraine is even ready for a new Bucha in order to portray itself as a victim.’“Kyiv is scaring the Poles to drag them into the war.”“Coincidence with Poland’s financial aid from the EU — a pretext on the part of the Ukrainians” — attempts to link the attack to the €43.7 billion loan granted to Warsaw.
These arguments contradict each other, but they share a common goal — to absolve russia of responsibility, portray Ukraine as the source of all problems, and sow discord between Kyiv, Warsaw and the West.
The russian Ministry of Defence issued an official statement that russia did not plan to strike targets in Poland and that the aforementioned incidents with drones in the NATO country were the result of unsuccessful electronic warfare by the Ukrainian army. In reality, it was russian drones, controlled from russian territory, that posed a real threat to the NATO country. And the world has received confirmation: russia will not stop until it is stopped. By force.
Ukrainian special services have already confirmed that this attack was planned in advance. All Gerbera UAVs that crashed or were shot down in Poland have additional fuel tanks in the nose section. Among the Gerber drones that were shot down in Ukraine at the same time, there were no such additional fuel tanks. So this is a special version of the UAV designed to fly as far as possible (more than 700 km) — for example, to Polish territory.
Other established facts:
● The UAVs that ended up in Poland were constantly manoeuvring; therefore, their trajectories and targets were set on Polish territory.● Ukrainian electronic warfare systems do not have a range of tens of kilometres to affect UAVs deep in Polish airspace.● The drones did not attempt to return to Ukraine, which contradicts the version of a ‘malfunction of Ukrainian electronic warfare.’● Ukrainian air defence forces destroyed some of the drones flying towards Poland, partially covering the Polish sky.● At least five Russian drones were targeting a NATO base in Poland, according to preliminary investigation data cited by Spiegel (https://www.spiegel.de/politik/deutschland/russische-drohnen-im-nato-luftraum-auf-konfrontationskurs-a-9d71c08f-f712 -4c94-a2c2-83079c011562) and Welt (https://www.welt.de/politik/plus68c2503914783f3062eebcf0/hoechstwahrscheinlich-absichtlich-brisante-neue-details-zum-drohnen-vorfall-in-polen.html). Spiegel names the location of this base as the Polish city of Rzeszów (where there is a logistics centre through which weapons are delivered to Ukraine). Welt reports for the first time that on Wednesday, drones also flew into Lithuania.
And this is not the first case of russian army combat drones ‘accidentally’ entering Poland. Moreover, in 2022, a russian missile even flew into Polish territory. Two Polish citizens became victims of the ‘incident.’ But NATO is still willing to tolerate the brazen behaviour of a terrorist state. We have not yet seen a strong response.
The deliberate russian drone attack is further proof that the Kremlin is at war not only with Ukraine, but with the entire NATO bloc. The violation of Poland's borders underscores that the threat from Putin's regime affects all of Europe.● Similar incidents have already occurred in Romania, Moldova and the Baltic states. This is now a deliberate strategy of pressure and intimidation. moscow is testing how far it will be allowed to go.● The attack coincided with preparations for the russian-Belarusian "Zapad 2025" military exercises on the Polish border. This is part of the kremlin's plan to undermine European unity and divide NATO from within.● moscow's statements about ‘peace and negotiations’ are just a cover. Therefore, appeasing the aggressor will only lead to a more widespread tragedy. And this could happen to any EU country.
Manipulation: Most Poles believe Ukraine is responsible for drones flying into their territory.
The information that a survey was allegedly conducted in Poland, which showed that most Poles blame Ukraine for the ‘drone incidents’ on 10 September, is false. In fact, the data circulating on social media and in the media has nothing to do with sociological surveys. It is taken from an infographic report by the Polish analytical centre Res Futura, which studied comments on social media immediately after the incident. In other words, the data that some media outlets presented as ‘results of a survey of Poles’ was actually the result of an analysis of comments on social media.
In its study, Res Futura analysed 179,000 comments on Facebook, X, YouTube and Instagram, which together received 118 million views. Polish researchers note that "the russian drone attack on Poland was immediately used as a catalyst for an organised information and psychological campaign (PSYOPS). Its goal is to shape negative public sentiment, polarise public opinion and systematically undermine trust in state institutions and NATO alliance structures. Analysis of content on Polish social media indicates a high saturation of repetitive comments, characteristic of coordinated actions rather than spontaneous reactions from citizens."
Polish researchers believe (https://x.com/Polityka_wSieci/status/1965701477990543537) that russia's brazen attack on 10 September was not only a test of the air defence of a NATO member state, but also a test of the information resilience of the media and the population of these countries. Experts predict that incidents of this type will recur. This is because the kremlin's immediate goal is not military victories over NATO members, but to divide the alliance and society from within.
"russia deliberately attacked Poland – we have facts and evidence to prove it. It was a planned provocation, coordinated with a disinformation campaign. Anyone who disputes this is working for russian propaganda," confirmed Krzysztof Gawkowski, Poland's Minister of Digital Transformation, on social media: https://x.com/CYFRA_GOV_PL/status/1966383287510630797
At the same time, russian propagandists created another fake story claiming that Poles had fabricated news about damage to a residential building caused by russian drones in the village of Vyryki-Volya. To do this, they created a collage of photos and comments from social media that allegedly confirmed that the building had been damaged by bad weather long before 10 September. However, there is no evidence other than comments from unknown people in the fake materials.
However, there is a video report by the international agency Reuters, which spoke with the owners of the damaged house. They said that the real cause of the destruction was an air attack by drones on 10 September.
