Russian propaganda continues its efforts to discredit the leadership of Ukraine. The new brazen fake concerns the head of the office of the President of Ukraine. Our colleagues from StopFake.Org exposes a new lie of the Russians.
Neither Bellingcat nor the BBC, which the propagandists refer to, have published such information.
Russian sources report that the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, allegedly paid $27 million for a place in Time's 100 most influential people in the world. At the same time, the Russians refer to a journalistic investigation by the respected Bellingcat team.
Propagandists even quote Eliot Higgins, the founder of Bellingcat, who allegedly attributed this to Yermak's desire to score political points in order to run for Zelensky's post in the future, as the president will allegedly stop performing his duties at the end of May due to unspecified health problems. As evidence, Russian propagandists cite a short BBC News clip, which relays the results of the Bellingcat "investigation".
Andrii Yermak really entered the rating of the most influential people of the current year in the "Leaders" category and became the only Ukrainian in this list. The text about Yermak was written by former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, who now works with him in the international working group on security guarantees for Ukraine and on the promotion of Ukraine's accession to NATO: "A person who played a central role in ensuring the work of the government. After the full-scale invasion, he conveyed Zelenskyi's message to the world, creating a strong network of friends of Ukraine from the West to the Global South, uniting them around issues from sanctions to the environment... At an important moment for Ukraine and for democracy, Andriy Yermak not only plays the role of a decisive leader, but and proved that he is."
However, neither Bellingcat nor BBC News reported that the position in the ranking went to the official through corruption. This is proven by a simple search on the websites of the mentioned media. It is significant that this is not the first time that propagandists refer to Bellingcat in order to lend authority to their words, despite the fact that this organization is recognized as a "foreign agent" and "undesirable" in Russia, and the investigators themselves are regularly accused by propagandists of political engagement and manipulation.
And this is a very popular method of creating fakes, which is often used by Russian propagandists.
