Why did the Trump administration pick up on Russian propaganda and what is the content of its ‘peace plan’?

peace plan Ukraine. Trump Zelenskyy

On 28 February, the first official meeting between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy took place in Washington. The meeting frankly failed on both sides. The American side openly states that it is offended. The Ukrainian president admitted that he was disappointed. But if you look for the truth in this chaos of news, you will find evidence of how Trump and his entourage began to attack the information space with disinformation about Zelenskyy personally and about Ukraine long before this meeting. And this disinformation surprisingly coincides with what the kremlin is broadcasting. Do you want to understand the global event?

The flow of mud from the MAGA (Trump supporters) movement against Zelenskyy has intensified significantly since his visit to Washington: ‘Zelenskyy is the most dangerous threat to the world and an irresponsible warmonger. Zelenskyy is obsessed only with maintaining the power he usurped. To do this, he destroyed the opposition, built a totalitarian state and mercilessly sent millions of his fellow citizens to their deaths. This figure is incapable of showing a sense of responsibility and is obsessed with prolonging the war, rejecting Trump's peace plan.’
Fact 1. russia has always portrayed Zelenskyy as an obstacle to its goals in Ukraine, ever since the great invasion. Recall that one of the goals of the military attack in February 2022 was to assassinate Zelenskyy and behead the Ukrainian government to install a pro-russian leadership.
Fact 2: The US version of the Rare Earth Minerals Agreement was significantly edited during the negotiations, as the original version did not take into account a number of wishes and important factors that should protect Ukraine from russian aggression. As a result, the Trump administration made some concessions, but still did not declare its readiness to protect Ukrainians in exchange for valuable resources. This is exactly what Zelenskyy came to discuss. However, instead, he received pressure and criticism from the American side.
Fact 3. As an argument, the ‘Trump camp’ is dispersed by Zelenskyy's inability to be grateful to the Americans and especially to the new US president for his initiative to end the war quickly. But the truth is that every time the legitimate leader of Ukraine has been to the United States or addressed the US leadership, he has thanked them for all the help his country has received from Washington. United24 counted 94 thanks at the highest official level. And speaking personally about MAGA and Trump, it was these people who blocked critical aid and laws for Ukraine for a long time during Biden's term. Should we be grateful for that? It was these people who spread fake news that ‘Zelenskyy is a dictator’, ‘Ukraine and Biden are to blame for the conflict with russia’, and so on. Should we thank them for that? Or maybe for the fact that Trump has not used the budget for Ukraine that was voted for under Biden during his month in office?
Fact 4. There is no reason to assume that Zelenskyy is deliberately prolonging the war. At every meeting, the President of Ukraine expresses his readiness for peace talks, but under conditions that respect international law and the territorial integrity of Ukraine. Zelenskyy has always stressed that the keys to this process lie with the kremlin: it is enough for the russians to stop the shelling, and the second effective step towards peace could be the exchange of prisoners under the ‘all for all’ formula, as well as the return of forcibly deported Ukrainian children (about 20,000) by russia, for which the International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for putin.
Fact 5. Trump's entourage claims that Ukraine has no prospects of defeating russia and regaining its territory. Especially without US support. This is accompanied by statements about the ‘terrible situation’ of the Ukrainian armed forces, the lack of support for Zelenskyy among the people, and the critical mistakes of the Ukrainian leadership. But the truth is that with limited assistance (all Ukrainians' requests have never been met by 100%), certain prohibitions on the use of weapons and the enemy's numerical superiority, the Ukrainian army in the first 2 years of the great war regained about 35% of its territory, destroyed russia's professional army by 90% (now the russians are holding out only through mercenaries and forced mobilisation), and destroyed the entire potential of the russian navy in the Black Sea. And the kremlin's army continues to shrink at a frantic pace. In addition, russia's economy is in the worst condition since the collapse of the Soviet Union.
That is why the kremlin needs a ‘ceasefire’ and ‘peace talks’ so badly.

So, what is Trump's ‘peace plan’?
The US President has not officially announced it, but statements by the country's political leadership make it clear that:
1. Trump wants to get a quick result (he said so himself during the election campaign), but he is not ready to destroy relations with his ‘friend’, who is headed by the kremlin. Accordingly, the only option left is to put pressure on Ukraine and Europe to agree to a capitulation that is beautifully framed by a ‘strategic partnership’. Both Ukrainians and Europeans (importantly) refuse to do so, as they understand the level of threat from russia if it is not given time to rearm and rebuild its army. In other words, there can be no lasting peace in this case.
2. Trump really does not consider Ukraine a strategic partner, and moreover, he does not share the values for which Ukrainians are fighting, namely a reliable world order, the rule of international law and the guarantee of security for all states without exception. But the new US president is happy to violate international agreements himself, calling for the humiliation of Canadians, Danes, Mexicans and other nations. Therefore, a quick but controlled fall of Kyiv is ideal. The problem would disappear by itself. But the civilised world will definitely not approve of this.
3. Trump, as a businessman by nature, counts money, and he is well aware that he will get more money from cooperation with russia (both the state and his business partners) than from cooperation with Ukraine. Moreover: ‘friendship with putin’ can be used against China, which the US considers its main opponent.
That's why the MAGA camp is so loud in its statements that Ukraine does not want peace, but a continuation of the war. The same is often repeated by putin as he watches his missiles and bombs continue to kill Ukrainians, destroy their homes and entire cities.
By the way, back in February 2023, Zelenskyy presented a 10-step plan for peace at the EU-Ukraine summit, which was fully supported by the EU and provided for a complete russian withdrawal from Ukraine to the 1991 borders. All this time, Ukraine has been ready for dialogue based on international law and the UN Charter, but it is russia that has been putting forward unacceptable conditions, such as recognising the occupied Ukrainian territories as part of russia, disarming Ukraine as much as possible and allowing pro-russian forces into the political field.
Why did the Americans not sit down with Bin Laden? Why did Europe not accept Hitler's ‘German peace’?Why are terrorists, murderers and rapists neutralised and given prison sentences instead of ‘peace agreements’? In any country.Maybe that's why any ‘friendship’ with putin looks like a tenfold increase in threats to the whole world?
