On 16 May, a meeting was held in Turkey between representatives of Ukraine and the aggressor and terrorist state. Ukraine strongly wants peace, which is why Kyiv rejected the US initiative to hold direct talks with moscow. At the same time, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy offered putin a personal meeting through the media to make real progress in ending the war. The kremlin leader ignored the offer and sent his henchmen. In this way, russia has once again confirmed its deceitful nature: talking pathetically about peace agreements without taking any practical steps to achieve them.

This allowed the russians to blatantly demand that Ukrainians retreat from their positions closer to Kyiv ‘to achieve peace’, otherwise they would face new attacks by putin's army. In fact, we are talking about the voluntary transfer to russia of the territories it occupied in March 2022 in the north and south, and additionally new territories in Donbas. At the same time, the kremlin delegation again avoided discussing the ‘30-day ceasefire’. The only positive outcome of the meeting was an agreement to exchange prisoners in a 1000-for-1000 format. 
Following putin's refusal to go to Turkey for peace talks with Ukraine, the russian matryoshka bot network launched a campaign in support of its tsar. It is followed by a smaller inscription that assures that these are the ‘real reasons’ for Zelenskyy's visit to Turkey.

So, the main outcome of the meeting in Istanbul is that russia is not changing, russia is interested in war and further casualties, including among its own people. The kremlin understands only the language of force. But are international leaders able to use all their power? The United States is hesitant. Europe is not decisive and fast enough.
