russian special services. sabotage in Germany. Ukrainians. Kremlin agents
russian websites are spreading information that three Ukrainian citizens suspected of preparing acts of sabotage have been detained in Germany and Switzerland: "According to The Guardian, citing German prosecutors, the arrested planned to commit arson and explosions at freight transport facilities". In fact, this information is manipulated.
According to German prosecutors, the three Ukrainians acted as ‘foreign agents’ of russia and were arrested on suspicion of planning to place explosive devices in transported goods: https://www.generalbundesanwalt.de/SharedDocs/Pressemitteilungen/DE/2025/Pressemitteilung-vom-14-05-2025.html?nn=478184
"On 9 May and 10 May 2025, the Prosecutor General's Office arrested Ukrainian citizens Vladyslav T. and Danylo B., and a petition for arrest warrants was submitted to the investigating judge of the Federal Court", the agency's website says.
Deutsche Welle also reports that all three Ukrainian citizens ‘were ready to commit acts of arson, planned to send parcels with explosive devices and handed them over to persons “allegedly acting on behalf of russian state bodies”. According to federal prosecutors, the suspects intended to set fire to freight trains travelling to Ukraine: https://www.dw.com/en/germany-arrests-3-for-planning-russian-sabotage-attacks/a-68048728
Deutsche Welle also writes that German intelligence services have repeatedly detained people working for russia, hiring people to carry out espionage and sabotage across the country. The publication warns of the growing threat of russian sabotage: "In particular, one of those arrested discussed sabotage operations in Germany targeting industrial facilities and military infrastructure, aimed at undermining German aid to Ukraine".
Another false story of a similar nature concerns a Ukrainian man whom London law enforcement officials accuse of setting fire to the house and apartment of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. russian media immediately picked up on this news and developed it with their own narratives. For example, they invented that the suspect, Roman Lavrynovych, worked as an escort and had a ‘relationship’ with the British Prime Minister, and that personal insults prompted the Ukrainian to commit the crime. British pro-russian propagandist George Galloway also wrote about this. What is the truth?
In fact, The Telegraph notes that russia may be behind the arson attack on the house where the prime minister used to live: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/05/13/russia-fire-prime-ministers-house-escalation/ Investigators are considering this version, which is linked to terrorism. Journalists point to the clear planning of the attack, which arouses suspicion among law enforcement agencies. The publication recalls that last year, criminals burned down a warehouse in London belonging to a Ukrainian company. At that time, two British citizens pleaded guilty and confessed that they had received money from foreign intelligence services. There is no reliable data or information in foreign sources that Roman Lavrynovych worked as an escort and that the motive for the crime was a personal insult based on a sexual relationship with Keir Starmer. Such lies are spread both to discredit Ukraine in the international arena and to discredit the British Prime Minister.
Moreover, Lavrynovych was not the only one charged with arson in houses belonging to Starmer. The second suspect was 26-year-old Romanian citizen Stanislav Karpyuk. Details about the third person have not been disclosed.
It is worth noting that the kremlin regularly hires ‘disposable’ agents to carry out a variety of simple tasks (sabotage, espionage, explosives preparation, etc.) around the world. A person's nationality does not matter. All that matters is the desire to make money. Very often, agents are recruited through social media. This phenomenon is also present among Ukrainians with a low social status (unemployed, drug addicts, representatives of criminal groups). It turns out that some Ukrainians are indeed acting against their people and their country out of a desire for instant enrichment. But the same applies to citizens of other countries.
russian special services know exactly who their target audience is and are skilled at recruiting people. They have been doing this for more than a century. And this is their insidiousness and danger. That is why it is so important to counteract the activities of russian intelligence services around the world in an organised and decisive manner.
