Zelenskyy's support. Donald Trump fake. russian propagandists. talks US russia

russian propaganda has been pushing the fake that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has very little support among Ukrainians and is only in power because of a harsh dictatorship. Unfortunately, this fake was repeated this week by US President Donald Trump after the first official meeting between the US and russia in many years. But it is a bold-faced lie.

The truth: As of the first half of February 2025, 57% of Ukrainians trust Zelenskyy, while 37% do not. The balance of trust and distrust is +20%. Moreover, the indicators of trust have improved slightly since the last poll in December 2024, when he was trusted by 52% and distrusted by 39%. These are the results of a survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology: https://kiis.com.ua/?lang=ukr&cat=reports&id=1496&page=1

Also, against the backdrop of the start of bilateral talks between the United States and russia, and against the backdrop of false statements by the US president, even the Ukrainian opposition and public figures publicly expressed their support for President Zelenskyy. Traditionally, the majority of colleagues in Europe supported the Ukrainian president. The overwhelming majority of MEPs and EU leaders fully trust Zelenskyy and are in favour of continuing to support Ukraine.

It was russian propagandists who started talking about low domestic trust and Zelenskyy's illegitimacy due to the lack of elections last year. Now that the new administration in Washington has given the green light for the kremlin's criminals to return to the negotiating table and the international political stage, russian special services have begun to attack the Ukrainian leader with renewed vigour. This begs the question: why does the Trump administration consume russian propaganda?

The US president has repeated another kremlin fake many times in recent weeks: that Joe Biden provoked the war in Ukraine and that Volodymyr Zelenskyy played along. This is exactly what putin's propagandists began to write about after the russian army's offensive in Ukraine failed. This is how the kremlin leadership justified its invasion of a sovereign state - by ‘protecting national interests in response to NATO expansion’. But if you closely follow the statements of russian terrorists, this is not the only reason why they started a terrible war. And this is their strategy: to create a lot of information, to claim new reasons, to claim other people's mistakes - to make their opponents justify themselves and fear pressure. "Falsely accuse so that the opponent is constantly defending himself and losing confidence" is a methodology of the russian special services, which Donald Trump's team has apparently begun to use successfully.
