Ukrainian border. Ukrainian news. French government.
aid to Ukraine
russian media are spreading lies that the Ukrainian government is going to mine the western border to prevent men of draft age from fleeing. To this end, propagandists have created a ‘video report’ with the Fox News logo. In reality, Fox News did not release such a video.
There is no confirmation of this on the channel's official resources. In addition, no authoritative media outlet — either in Ukraine or in the West — has written about the ‘mining’ of the western border. The story is fictional and is only being spread by russian sources.
What was the reason for spreading this lie? Ukraine's decision to withdraw from the Ottawa Convention, an international agreement that restricted the use of anti-personnel mines. russia, incidentally, never ratified this agreement and actively uses mines on the front lines. Ukraine followed the example of countries that had already left the Convention — Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Finland and Estonia. The reason is to protect against russian aggression. In other words, it is a mirror response to the kremlin's actions.
At the same time, misinformation is spreading about the French people allegedly calling on Europe to stop supplying weapons to Ukraine. ‘A French politician has called for Trump's decision to end all military and financial support for Ukraine and establish peace to be taken advantage of,’ writes a russian publication, referring to politician Florian Philippot. In reality, Florian Philippot does not represent the official position of France or Europe. He is the leader of the small Patriotes party, which has no representation in parliament and no broad support among French voters. His statements are his personal opinion.
It is also worth noting that Florian Philippot is known for his pro-russian statements and criticism of the European Union and France's policy towards russia. He has repeatedly stated that russia does not pose a threat to France and that anti-russian rhetoric is propaganda of fear. He also opposes sanctions and the severing of economic ties with russia and supports the idea of resuming dialogue with moscow. Neither the French government nor the country's leading political forces have called for an end to aid to Ukraine. According to the latest public opinion polls (Ipsos and CESI École d'Ingénieurs, February 2025), the majority of French people support providing humanitarian and economic aid to Ukraine, while support for military aid fluctuates but does not show a sharp decline and does not provoke protest: https://www.ipsos.com/fr-fr/guerre-en-ukraine-66-pourcent-des-francais-estiment-que-le-soutien-europeen-lukraine-doit-continuer
In other words, the polls show that Filippo's statements do not reflect the mood of the majority of French citizens.
