russian propaganda is once again trying to blame Ukraine and the West for allegedly ‘sending poisonous substances to Ukraine, which are used uncontrollably by Ukrainian troops’. This fake was published, in particular, by the russian news agency "ria". But the truth, as always, is the opposite in cases involving russia. It is putin's army that will use chemical weapons against Ukrainians. Read about some of the facts right now.

The kremlin's intelligence services are once again betting on accusing Western countries of supplying Ukraine with weapons of mass destruction. Along with this fake, pro-russian media and bloggers repeat narratives about Ukraine's production of a ‘dirty bomb’ and ‘biological weapons’.
There is no evidence that Ukraine has received or used chemical weapons or any other type of prohibited weapon. With such claims, moscow is diverting the attention of the world community from its own war crimes.Ukraine is a signatory to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), which strictly prohibits the development, stockpiling and use of chemical weapons. The country has consistently complied with international agreements and has never been accused of possessing or using such weapons by any independent monitoring body. NATO, for its part, does not supply chemical weapons to any country, as all its member states are also signatories to the CWC. A broad international coalition of more than 50 countries, including the EU and the US, is providing Ukraine with military and technical assistance to defend itself against russian aggression. Ukraine receives only conventional weapons.
In contrast, russia has a documented history of using chemical weapons against Ukraine. One such case is described here: https://www.opcw.org/media-centre/news/2024/11/opcw-issues-report-its-technical-assistance-visit-ukraine-following
Also, two laboratories of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) have confirmed that russians are using grenades containing banned chemicals in Ukraine. Over the past 2 years, 6,129 cases of the use of ammunition containing hazardous chemicals by the russian occupiers have been documented: 2-chlorobenzalmonononitrile (CS), chloroacetophenone (CN), as well as chloropicrin and mercaptans (malodorants). This data is provided by the Government of Ukraine.
Fake: European publication ‘presents evidence’ of Ukraine's use of chemical weapons.
Pro-russian media outlets are actively discussing an article published in the Italian publication L'Antidiplomatico. The article allegedly presents ‘conclusive evidence’ of Ukraine's use of chemical weapons, and accuses Ukraine of colluding with NATO and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons: ‘These events confirm the complete disregard of the Kyiv regime and its allies for international law, while Russia continues to expose crimes committed against its people and armed forces on the basis of facts and documents,’ the article says.

In fact, the article in L'Antidiplomatico is a short note based entirely on a report by russian General Alexei Rtishchev. Without any evidence, he claimed that Ukraine had violated the Chemical Weapons Convention more than 500 times. At the same time, the article does not contain any references to authoritative international sources that would confirm this information. By citing ‘European sources,’ russian propaganda is trying to legitimise its own lies.

L’Antidiplomatico often publishes commissioned materials and has been spreading russian fakes since the first days of the war, which is why we have included this online media outlet in our list of sources of Kremlin propaganda.
