Friedrich Merz, russian propaganda, elections in Germany, allies of Ukraine
The russian media "Novosti" published a publication under the title "Horrible sobering up. Kyiv is losing two important allies in Europe." Another pathetic attempt to create the illusion that Ukraine is losing the support of its allies and has no prospects against russian aggression.
"In just a few days, Ukraine's position in the EU has changed dramatically. CDU/CSU leader Friedrich Merz (pictured) said that Kyiv will not be able to defeat russia, and in Austria the party that opposes anti-russian sanctions won the election," - a quote from russian propaganda publications. The pseudo-journalists of the kremlin also promote the narrative that "Austria and Germany are reviewing their attitude towards Kyiv. However, it does not happen very quickly. Austrians and Germans are tired of the Ukrainian topic. This is one of the reasons for the victory of the APS and the change in the rhetoric of Mertz, who not so long ago supported sending weapons to Ukraine."
The truth: no "change in Mertz's rhetoric" has taken place. "Novosti" information agency quotes his interview with Bild magazine. There he criticizes the government for insufficient support for Ukraine and insists on the need to restore its sovereignty over the entire territory: "Today is September 27, 2024, and unfortunately we cannot turn back time. If we look at the balance sheet today, two and a half years later, it looks pretty scary and very sobering. I spoke about this recently in the Bundestag. We acted too late and did too little. I was of the opinion that we are now helping Ukraine not so that it wins this war, but so that it does not lose. For me, victory means that Ukraine must restore sovereignty over its territory. And russia should stop attacking this country. We must do everything so that russia considers the continuation of the war with the use of military force hopeless. But we are quite far from that."
According to all polls, the CDU/CSU bloc led by Merts is in the lead and so far has every chance to lead the new coalition government. Therefore, Ukraine not only does not lose an important ally, but also has reason to count on more radical support from Germany after the change of government.
As for Austria, the Freedom Party, although it won first place in the elections, has little chance of forming a government. According to The Insider, the coalition is most likely to be created by center-right and center-left forces. Yes, the Freedom Party clearly lacks the votes to block the government's decision. In addition, the current Austrian government tends to maintain a neutral rhetoric regarding russian aggression, so the situation will not change radically with the formation of a new government. Ukraine's main allies remain united in their desire to restore international order to the European continent through the military and economic weakening of putin's criminal regime.
