Pro-kremlin pseudo-media outlets are spreading a fake that InfoWars reporter Jamie White, who was previously added to the Ukrainian ‘Peacemaker’ database for criticising Ukraine, was killed on 9 March in Austin (USA). The second fake on this topic: Reporters Without Borders recorded 8,440 cases of violations of freedom of speech in Ukraine over the year. The truth is quite different.

In fact, this is another manipulation of russian propaganda, because Jamie White's death was in no way related to his activities. And to be honest, White often spread anti-Ukrainian fakes and conspiracies, including about American biolabs in Ukraine and the fact that the Maidan protests were organised by the government of Barack Obama.
By the way, White's name is not mentioned at all in the "Myrotvorets" database (a database of people who are engaged in anti-Ukrainian activities or openly support the putin regime). Moreover, this project is not a ‘hit list’ as russian propagandists have called it.

White was killed on the evening of 9 March in the US city of Austin, but in a comment to The Independent, White's sister denied (https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/crime/jamie-white-infowars-murder-alex-jones-b2712630.html) that he was the target of the attackers. He was shot and killed by a person or persons who tried to break into his car for the second time. The police added that White was caught in the act of trying to steal his car and was shot. On the same night, several similar crimes were committed in Austin.

Regarding the second fake claim that Reporters Without Borders recorded 8,440 cases of violations of freedom of speech in Ukraine in 2024. The organisation's video report is being spread by russian media and bots on social media platforms X and Instagram. In fact, this video is a fake. There is no video with such data on the official website of Reporters Without Borders (RSF) or on the organisation's social media, according to Ukrinform fact-checkers.

russian propagandists edited the video from images that can be found in the public domain, and added the RSF logo using a graphic editor. By the way, the latest RSF news is dated 17 March 2025 and refers to violations of the rights of USAGM employees around the world, including imprisoned media workers in countries outside the United States. Thus, the most hostile countries to USAGM representatives are Belarus, russia, China, north korea, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam. There is no mention of Ukraine in the article.

The purpose of this fake news is to spread the kremlin's narrative about the ‘lack of freedom of speech and free press in Ukraine’ and the ‘hunt for international journalists who criticise the Ukrainian government’. But the truth is that independent and free journalism has long been non-existent as a phenomenon in russia itself. It was putin's regime that forced many genuine russian journalists to go abroad. And those who didn't make it ended up in prison or under pressure from law enforcement agencies. Read more about journalism in russia here.
