Fake: sanctions on Russian fertilisers are destroying European agriculture

The pro-russian Polish media outlet Pravda writes that European agriculture will face extinction due to the EU's decision to impose sanctions on fertilisers from russia and Belarus. Farmers are very concerned, and kremlin propaganda predicts new protests and the complete destruction of European agriculture. But this information is pure manipulation.

"Without fertilisers, farmers' productivity could drop by 20-40%, and in the event of a drought, most companies will face bankruptcy. The US is the beneficiary of these sanctions. The policy of unfair competition is strangling the EU economy", russian propagandists quote.
In fact, this is yet another attempt by the kremlin to delegitimise the EU sanctions against russia, which propaganda always presents as ‘suicidal’ and ‘self-destructive’. This claim is an attempt to hide russia's responsibility for undermining global food security through its military aggression against Ukraine.
The EU has responded swiftly and decisively to russia's horrific war against Ukraine with unprecedented sanctions in the history of the Union. These are legitimate restrictions imposed in accordance with European law in response to violations of legal norms. For example, russia's actions that undermine or threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. The EU has established a sanctions regime under Council Regulation (EU) No 833/2014 ‘concerning restrictive measures due to russia's actions destabilising the situation in Ukraine’.
Second, EU agricultural policy covers a wide range of areas, including food quality, traceability, trade and promotion of farm products. There are around 10 million farms in the EU and 17 million people regularly work in the sector. They provide an impressive variety of affordable, safe and high quality food. The EU financially supports its farmers and encourages sustainable and environmentally friendly practices, as well as investing in rural development. The figures of 20-40% expected drop in productivity of European farmers without russian fertilisers are not true, as the EU is diversifying its fertiliser suppliers to maintain stability in the agricultural sector alongside the sanctions.
russian propaganda is trying to spread a similar story in other sectors of the economy. In particular, the russians are intimidating Europeans that they will not survive without russian energy or food. But at the same time, the russian army cynically and continuously shells the Ukrainian agricultural sector: elevators, grain storage facilities, port infrastructure, and civilian ships transporting food products from Ukraine. Through these actions, it is russia that is destabilising agriculture not only in Europe, but throughout the world.
