False: "Due to the transfer of local fire station equipment to Ukraine, fires in California are still raging and cannot be extinguished". This post was published on social media platform X by American entrepreneur John LeFevre. The post was also shared by Elon Musk and Donald Trump Jr.

The truth: the fire department did indeed transfer some equipment to Ukraine, but it was back in March 2022. This fact was verified by StopFake fact-checkers. Moreover, the items that were transferred to Ukraine could hardly help the Americans now. After all, it was mostly equipment unsuitable for use in the United States, as well as helmets, gloves, boots, hoses and nozzles, and medical supplies. Heavy equipment, which is crucial in the fight against such a disaster, was not transferred to Ukraine.
In addition, the narrative of ‘Ukraine's guilt’ is refuted by statements from firefighters. They attribute the difficulties in extinguishing the fires to strong wind gusts, low humidity and above-zero temperatures. "History proves that the combination of high winds, low humidity and high temperatures creates an explosive potential for fires", the Los Angeles Fire Department said in a statement on 6 January.
It is worth noting that this group of Americans (John LeFevre, Elon Musk and Donald Trump Jr.) is not the first time that they have spread disinformation or outright accusations against the Ukrainian government and the Ukrainian people, thus reinforcing kremlin propaganda. What is the purpose of their actions? Obviously, they have a personal interest in this. And yet they still lack the courage to say so honestly: "We are great supporters of the first terrorist on the planet".

Another fake on this topic was spread on social media, including Telegram: "The UNITED24 platform has created a video saying that the fires in the US are karmic punishment for insufficient support for Ukraine". The russians specially created a video with the logo of the international platform UNITED24 and added their own text. There are no posts with similar messages on the official UNITED24 pages.

Another fake is circulating online that Zelenskyy called on the Los Angeles authorities ‘not to be distracted by far-fetched problems and to better support Ukraine with funding’. In fact, the Ukrainian president offered US assistance in fighting the large-scale fires that are raging in California and never called them ‘far-fetched problems’. "The situation is very difficult there, and Ukrainians can help Americans protect lives. We have offered our assistance to the American side. 150 Ukrainian rescuers are trained and ready to go to California", Zelenskyy told reporters.
